The Issue

Students at Acadia University are deeply concerned about the recent staff layoffs and service cuts at the Wong International Centre, Acadia Health Promotion at Acadia, and layoffs at the Acadia Counselling Centre. These services play a critical role in supporting student wellbeing, inclusion, and success on campus. The sudden elimination of these positions has disrupted essential supports for international students, mental health services, and campus health initiatives.

We, the undersigned, are calling on Acadia University to provide transparent explanations for these decisions and the processes behind them. Students deserve to understand why vital services that support our wellbeing and community have been reduced.

Furthermore, we demand that the university prioritize reinstating these positions and restoring the services that students rely on. While we recognize that some staff members may understandably choose not to return after the abrupt and hasty elimination of their roles, the positions themselves must be reinstated and filled to ensure students continue to receive adequate support.

Acadia has long emphasized community, wellbeing, and student success. Cutting these essential services undermines those commitments. We call on university leadership to listen to students, act with transparency, and restore the staffing and services necessary for a healthy, supportive campus community.
