Protect Squirrelly the Emotional Support Squirrel

Protect Squirrelly the Emotional Support Squirrel
The Issue
In Minnesota, our family is facing a heartbreaking situation. For the past four years, we have been privileged to have Squirrelly, a lively and beloved pet squirrel, as an essential member of our family. Squirrelly was initially found as an injured baby that had fallen from our tree in the backyard and has grown under our care to become more than just a pet. He is an emotional support animal for my autistic brother, providing companionship and joy in ways words cannot capture.
Squirrelly has thrived in our home, where he enjoys a spacious and safe enclosure filled with light and love. His daily activities, including doing joyful flips and watching TV, reflect his happiness and good health. Recently, the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has intervened, stating that since he cannot be released safely into the wild, they would euthanize him. This is an unimaginable possibility for us, as Squirrelly plays such an important role in our lives and is tied to our family's emotional well-being.
We have attempted to release Squirrelly back into the wild, but he clearly chose the safety and love of our family over the uncertainty of the outside world. It's evident he considers us his home. Euthanization would rob him of his chosen family and deprive my brother of vital emotional support.
We are calling on the Minnesota DNR to make an exception in this case. Squirrelly is healthy, happy, and an integral part of our family. His unique situation and the bond he shares with my brother should be considered over a blanket policy. We propose that Squirrelly remains with us, continuing his life in the nurturing environment he knows and loves.
Please join us in urging the Minnesota DNR to reevaluate their position and allow Squirrelly to remain with his family. Sign this petition to help preserve the bond between Squirrelly and our family and to prevent an innocent animal from facing an unnecessary end.
