The Issue

"Democracy dies when the counting process is opaque and the mainstream media hides the peaceful protests of its own people."

The cornerstone of any democracy is free and fair elections. South Korea, long admired for its democratic achievements, now faces a silent crisis. Recent irregularities in the electoral process—including hidden voter counts and a severe lack of transparency in automated vote-counting software—have threatened our foundational principles.

Yet, you won't see this on the news. While hundreds of thousands of ordinary citizens have taken to the streets nationwide in peaceful rallies to demand transparency and accountability from the current administration, the mainstream media remains completely silent.

Without independent verification, the very essence of democracy is at risk. Democratic backsliding in South Korea doesn’t just affect the region; it sets a dangerous precedent for free nations worldwide.

We urgently call on the South Korean authorities to:

  1. Implement Same-Day Hand-Counting: Immediately abolish opaque automated vote-counting software and mandate fully transparent, hand-counted paper ballots on election day.
  2. Restore Total Transparency: Allow independent audits and international observers to fully oversee and verify the entire electoral process.
  3. End the Media Blackout: Acknowledge the deep public distrust and respect the voices of citizens peacefully protesting for the survival of their democracy.

As a global citizen, I cannot stay silent. Silence is consent.
