Protect Solar Powered Buildings in Cambridge through Zoning Laws

The Issue

In February 2025, Cambridge passed new zoning, allowing new construction to rise 4, 6, or 9 stories high with smaller setbacks. This was passed without providing protections for homes and buildings with solar.

In Massachusetts, we have state law protecting solar energy usage: Section 9B of Chapter 40A. A law that is yet to be adopted by the city of Cambridge, leaving buildings with solar at risk.

We must encourage the city of Cambridge to create zoning legislation to include protections for buildings with solar technology. By making this change, we will ensure that our clean, renewable energy source is protected from the shadows of new construction.

It's crucial that we show our support and take action. Sign this petition, and let our voices be heard: we stand in support of solar power and uphold the need for its protection in our city's zoning laws.
