🚨 Protect Section 504: Defend Disability Rights Now! 🚨
The Issue
To: The Attorney General’s Office of Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah and West Virginia
For over 50 years, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 has been a lifeline for disabled Americans, ensuring access to education, employment, healthcare, and public services without discrimination.
Now, 17 states: AK, AL, AR, FL, GA, IN, IA, KS, LA, MO, MT, NE, SC, SD, TX, UT and WV have filed a lawsuit against against the federal government to get rid of 504, threatening the rights of millions of disabled people across the country.
📢 We demand that these states withdraw from this lawsuit and uphold disability rights! 📢
What is Section 504 & Why Does It Matter?
Section 504 is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination based on disability in federally funded programs. It has:
✅ Ensured equal access to public education for students with disabilities
✅ Protected disabled workers from workplace discrimination
✅ Mandated accessibility in hospitals, public transit, and government services
✅ Laid the foundation for future disability rights laws like the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
Without these protections, millions of disabled Americans will face greater barriers to education, employment, and independent living.
If they succeed, disabled people will lose vital accommodations, face greater discrimination, and be denied equal opportunities.
These states are actively working to roll back disability rights—this is unacceptable.
We Demand That These States:
✔ Withdraw From This Lawsuit
✔ Recognize Disability Rights as Civil Rights
✔ Protect, Not Attack, Disabled Americans in Their States
✔ Listen to the Disability Community Instead of Politicizing Basic Rights
Disability rights should never be up for debate. No state should be able to strip away fundamental civil rights.
