Leica’s Saving Paws Rescue in Hall County, Georgia, has been a lifeline for countless dogs — rescuing them from neglect, providing urgent medical care, and helping them find safe and loving homes. But now the rescue itself is under threat. Cyber criminals hacked its Facebook page, stole thousands of dollars in donations, and even tricked supporters with fake fundraising appeals.

At least $3,300 has already been confirmed stolen, though the true loss may be much higher. The hackers didn’t just take money — they took away food, medicine, and shelter from animals who desperately need it. They fabricated stories about dogs in urgent need, attached their own payment links to real fundraisers, and left the rescue cut off from its main source of support.

The damage is staggering. Leica’s Saving Paws partners with the Hall County Animal Shelter and other rescues across Georgia. Without these funds, dogs will go without medical care, families may lose a chance to adopt, and a rescue that has served the community for years could be forced to close its doors.

This is not just theft. It is cruelty — stealing from animals who have no voice of their own. If criminals can rob a small animal rescue with impunity, every nonprofit and every animal shelter is vulnerable.

We call on Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, the Georgia Office of the Attorney General, and the Federal Trade Commission to immediately investigate this crime, work with Facebook and other platforms to recover stolen funds, and create stronger protections so animal rescues cannot be targeted again. Justice means more than punishment — it means restoring the resources these animals lost.
