Protect rural Escondido's character from developers

The Issue

Protect Rural Escondido was formed to by a group of concerned citizens and neighbors who are seeking to raise awareness of the size and scope of the proposed “Aldea Escondido” ultra-high density housing project affecting Idaho and Birch Avenues and additional areas from San Pasqual Valley, Summit Drive, Citrus, and more rural neighborhoods in unincorporated Escondido. These rural neighborhoods are places where the hum of nature is a comforting tune, where the landscapes are painted with the hues of a bygone era - a time when citrus and avocado groves stretched as far as the eye could see. These are unique neighborhoods with mature trees, open fencing, larger lot spacing, and homes designed to blend in with the land rather then overwhelm it. rural and semi-rural life is tangible and authentic environment that offers a unique lifestyle and transition buffer from the bustling city. These communities stretch for over 5 miles from Birch Avenue south to the I-15 freeway.

However, the unique character of this cherished community is now under threat from developers, whose eyes are set on the legacy agricultural parcels that lie at the heart of our established rural areas. These developers, employing aggressive tactics, are pushing for annexation into the city of Escondido with little regard for the community's voice. This threatens not only the zoning designation for farm animals, cherished by those of us who share our lives with them, but also the very essence of our rural community.

What makes this situation even more frustrating is that our local elected officials are leaning too heavily in favor of developers, ignoring the concerns and rights of long-standing residents. It's crucial that we preserve the unique character of Escondido’s rural neighborhoods for future generations. Once these landscapes and communities are altered, they are lost forever.

We demand a balanced approach that respects and preserves the rural nature of our neighborhoods. Our environment should not bend solely to accommodate development at the cost of community character and historical significance. Let us protect the legacy of Escondido’s unincorporated rural areas from unchecked development.

Please sign the petition to stand with us in defense of our home and its heritage.
