The debate over the proposed Ministerial Call-In for the Coochin Creek developments is heating up—and it’s making headlines.
A recent article by journalist Sonia Isaacs has brought this issue into the spotlight on one of the sites, the Coochin Fields development, revealing deep concerns, as this petition highlights. The Sunshine Coast Council and the State Assessment and Referral Agency (SARA) have both raised serious red flags about the festival site proposal, which SARA has not supported due to major planning non-compliance.
Cr Jenny Broderick called the intervention “disappointing” and said it “pulled the rug out from under our feet.” The Sunshine Coast Environment Council described the move as “unprecedented” and a direct threat to Queensland’s planning integrity and the sensitive ecosystems of Pumicestone Passage.
📢 This is a critical moment. The two proposed call in sites total nearly 200 hectares - all within the protected Inter Urban Break! The Minister is considering overriding both Council and SARAs well considered assessments and requests to the developer for more information. If this goes ahead, it sets a dangerous precedent for future developments across Queensland.
