Protect Pringletown Residents from Dangerous Speeding and Street Racing

Protect Pringletown Residents from Dangerous Speeding and Street Racing
The Issue
Pringletown in Ridgeville, South Carolina has long been a quiet residential community. In recent years, however, traffic in our area has increased significantly due to nearby growth and development. Unfortunately, roadway safety improvements have not kept pace with this increase in traffic.
Residents are now experiencing serious and ongoing safety concerns, including vehicles traveling at excessive speeds through residential areas, late-night street racing, vehicles leaving the roadway and destroying residential mailboxes, and crashes involving parked vehicles.
Many residents feel unsafe even retrieving their mail because of how fast vehicles travel through the area. Families have expressed concern for children playing near their homes, and elderly residents are increasingly hesitant to drive or walk near the roadway.
There has already been a fatality involving a four-wheeler in the area, and multiple incidents where vehicles have left the roadway and caused property damage.
In addition, groups have entered private residential property and conducted car meet gatherings on private land, creating disturbances and additional safety risks for residents.
Members of the community have reported these issues to local authorities on numerous occasions and have submitted video evidence documenting these incidents. However, meaningful enforcement and preventative action have been limited or inconsistent.
Residents of Pringletown are asking transportation officials and local leaders to address these growing safety concerns by:
• Conducting a formal traffic safety study
• Installing appropriate traffic safety signage or speed control measures
• Increasing law enforcement patrols to address speeding and street racing
• Implementing additional safety improvements to protect residents
These safety concerns are especially noticeable along several roads in the Pringletown and Ridgeville area, including Old Gilliard Road and the intersection of School Street (SC-173) and Highway 78 near the Dollar General and BP in Ridgeville. Residents have reported multiple accidents and dangerous turning conditions at this location due to the lack of a traffic signal.
The residents of Pringletown deserve safe roadways and reasonable protection from reckless driving and hazardous traffic conditions.
If you live in or travel through the Pringletown community and share these concerns, we encourage you to sign this petition and help bring attention to the need for improved roadway safety.
By signing this petition, you are supporting efforts to improve roadway safety and protect the wellbeing of residents in the Pringletown community.
