The Issue

Update: Please see the updated section for comments by representatives etc. below in "Updates".

On 21st November 2025, a hit-and-run in the middle of the day occured on our street. It's heart-breaking, sick and panicking. Is this the same "safe" neighbourhood we want to raise our children in?

This street and its residents have had enough. We've had enough of asking Brisbane City Council and Queensland State Government to protect us. We've had enough of asking for traffic to be directed to safer main roads that were built to sustain traffic - and told "nothing can be done" by Councillors and MPs. We've had enough of speeding cars passing through this narrow street with a blind hill without a care. We've had enough of having our pets hit, koalas (endangered species) hit, our cars hit, traffic swerving, road rage and near misses just trying to live our lives. Does it really take a human life to pass away before we are taken seriously? Is that the sort of local and state government support we want?

Note: Pring Street faces west with afternoon low sun directly in drivers' eyes. These drivers continue speeding and road rage with impeded vision, particularly at the crest of Pring Street then quickly down to Fernvale Road. This is a point as to why dangerous incidents like hit-and-runs occur.

If Councillor Steve Griffiths can change our round-a-bout to that botched-up intersection with little consultation from impacted street residents, why is it so hard for Council to hear us about unsafe Pring Street for at least the past 10+ years?

Note: Steve consulted "expert engineers" and "officers" for the design of that disaster intersection on the off-chance someone could be hurt on the old round-a-bout. Well, Councillors, someone actually passed away and where are those "expert engineers" now for Pring Street?

Join the petition PROTECT PRING STREET to make our voices heard. Pring Street can no longer be subjected to dangerous risk and be ignored!

We've used individual petitions and paper petitions in the past, however, an online platform has more eyes for accountability.

We propose that Pring Street have road blocks just like our neighbours Prior Street, Bramston Street and Pope Street. This will deter non-local, unsafe traffic to the main roads. Emergency services can still access the top end of the streets via Andrew Ave and Elliot Street - this excuse was historically used by Council, but now in light of the actual emergency situation caused by this very excuse it's sadly ironic. Windmill Street shops can still be accessed via Andrew Ave intersection that can better handle safety.

Alternates presented to us residents by Council will be considered. However, deterring dangerous thoroughfare traffic is the goal.

Note: Speed bumps will only encourage more unsafe hooning and engine noise pollution. Speed bumps on a large hill are unacceptable for safety. We propose road blocks as acceptable.

We encourage all local residents to contact Brisbane City Council Councillor KRISTA ADAMS for Holland Park Ward (who is also Deputy Mayor) and Queensland MP for Miller MARK BAILEY by phone, email, letter and signing petitions. They need to listen to the people.

Please share our cause and give us hope for a better future.

Our thoughts and prayers are with our neighbouring affected family at this difficult time.
