Protect Port Richmond from trespassers and fire risks
The Issue
I am deeply concerned about the safety and security of our neighborhood in Port Richmond, Staten Island. Port Richmond, is facing a growing safety threat where repeated trespassing in our neighborhood has put homes, families, and first responders at risk. Some incidents have even created fire hazards.
In recent months, unauthorized entry onto private properties has become all too common. Beyond violating our privacy, these intrusions have created dangerous situations that could result in serious property damage or worse.
What’s especially concerning is that these incidents have occurred repeatedly throughout the school day and after dismissal, pointing to a need for stronger prevention, supervision, and coordination. This is not about blaming anyone — It’s about recognizing the seriousness of the situation and taking immediate action to prevent further harm.
Homes and streets where children play should be safe, but residents are worried about property damage and potential danger. Without immediate action, Port Richmond families and homes remain at risk.
We respectfully request immediate and coordinated action from city officials, public safety agencies, and the Department of Education, including
• Increased NYPD presence and monitoring during peak hours
• Fire safety assessments and preventative measures on affected properties
• Coordination with the NYC Department of Education, school-based safety and youth outreach programs to help prevent further incidents and ensure safe dismissal and supervision.
• Clear communication with residents regarding safety measures being taken
Sign this petition to help keep Port Richmond safe. Together, we can protect our homes, families, and community from further harm.
