Protect Parrie Haynes Ranch
The Issue
Texas, a majestic land known for its rich natural beauty, currently ranks 35th in the nation in state park acreage per capita. Parrie Haynes Ranch, a priceless 4500-acre open space nestled in Bell County, is a unique gem in our hands, that is calling for your support to preserve for posterity.
This public land is being placed for sale by a Bank.
-Permanently eliminate public access to this property,
-Displace nonprofit programming that aligns with Parrie Haynes' philanthropic intent,
-And jeopardize Fort Hood’ land-use buffer, a critical defense compatibility concern.
In contrast, a transfer to TPWD or a local government entity would:
-Safeguard the property for generations of Texans,
-Support continued economic impact from the sporting goods sales tax tied to equestrian recreation and outdoor recreation,
-Align with the goals of the 2023 Centennial Parks Conservation Fund, and
-Honor the original charitable purpose for which the land was entrusted to the State.
Background:
Out of 82 open state parks only 12 have equestrians facilities
which non equestrians are allowed to camp in. Equestrians are the 4th largest group that contribute to the Sporting Good Sales Tax through purchases of feed, tack, and supplies.
Parrie Haynes Equestrian Center, currently maintained by Ona Trubee, needs to remain open. Ona's operation of site has made this location a preferred destination due to it's priority on the equine experience. It is critical that Ona continues to operate this portion of the ranch.
Thousands of equine enthusiasts are drawn to its diverse and enchanting terrain. Its untouched open spaces have consistently provided us with inspiring opportunities for a myriad of outdoor recreation pursuits while maintaining a significant focus on conservation.
The Ranch is not only about serving the needs of outdoor lovers; it is home to priceless ecosystems and wildlife habitats, a haven that is our legacy and we should be proud to call our own.
This petition needs your voice to safeguard our collective natural treasure that is Parrie Haynes Ranch. Your support signifies a commitment to conservation and a vote for increasing the preservation of our . Help us let the leaders of Texas critical greenspace. Our shared natural inheritance should be held sacred, protected, and cherished for all to benefit from. Let's not rank 35th anymore.
