Leading cities around the world are deconstructing intrusive concrete from natural and built environments to embrace the "Sponge City" philosophy and solutions.
This photo is UPSTREAM at the Female Factory Weir. It demonstrates the current regeneration of the same 'naturally functioning' river-shoulder that is downstream at Parramatta's Old Kings School. This is a MODEL for not concreting and filling the river-edge in the "Western River Precinct Connections" Project, that is presently proposed with massive State Govt funding.
This image was similarly a litter-filled, weed-infested riparian zone, that is now rehabilitating with low-impact bush regeneration and revegetation. It will recover to provide diverse wildlife habitats and express the story of the Burramatta River.
Council needs to move beyond the proposed concrete 'revetment walling' that narrows the river (excavating and filling the existing historic earthen riverbank) which is rather contradictory given this upcoming Sydney Design Week Event:-
