Protect Papahānaumokuākea: Stop Elon Musk Rocket Debris in Sacred Hawaiian Waters
The Issue
The goal is at least 10,000 signatures to bring attention to these matters addressing the FAA, CEQ, and OHA. With a few seconds of your time and your help, we'll show them how serious we are and how serious of a threat this is to our sacred waters, marine eco-system, and Indigenous rights.
PLEASE NOTE: All donations will go to Change.org, when you donate, the funds are used to promote the petition and gain signatures. After signing the petition you can press share anyways instead if you do not want to donate.
Elon Musk SpaceX is targeting sacred waters Papahānaumokuākea- one of the most sacred and ecologically vital places on earth- as a dumping ground for his rockets.
"If the (starship) did hit a whale, it's like, honestly, that whale had it coming." Calling it, "Final destination: The Whale Edition." - Elon Musk.
The public comment deadline for the EA was January 17, 2025, but this fight Isn't over. An EA is just the first step-and not enough for a project with this level of risk. If enough of us speak up- the FAA can be pushed to require a full Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). Even with the public comment window being closed, federal law still allows communities to insist on a full EIS before any splash‑down permits are finalized.
Papahānaumokuākea is a protected marine national monument that consists of our North Western Hawaiian islands- making it a total of 137 Hawaiian islands. Holding deep spiritual and cultural significance for Kānaka Maoli (Native Hawaiians), it is also known as the realm of Pō, the place where spirits return after death, and where many of our ancestral stories begin.
Home to over 7,000 different species, 25% of those animals are found nowhere else on earth. As someone who has had the rare privilege to sail through these sacred waters, witnessing firsthand the cycle of life, and kilo-ing (observe) nature in its truest form, from beauty to devastation- I feel that it is my kuleana (responsibility) to speak up and bring attention to these matters.
Papahānaumokuākea is at threat.
Elon Musk has been approved by the Government: Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to launch his 25 Space X rockets annually from Texas, leaving the rocket debris to fall into our oceans, and more specifically Papahānaumokuākea. The marine life is already facing threats from commercial fishing, plastic, and other marine debris.
To make matters worse, Elon Musk is the ONLY option that provides WiFi services for the remote field work across the islands of Papahānaumokuākea- what was once a game changer for conservation work is now a threat. This is Exploitation Disguised as Innovation. History is repeating itself- not just on the land, but now, in the sky.
We demand:
An immediate halt to rocket launches that impact the Papahānaumokuākea region.
A full Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) with Native Hawaiians, cultural partitioners, and community leaders.
Respect for Papahānaumokuākea as more than a dumping site - but as sacred ʻāina that must be protected at all costs.
This is a call to protect our sacred waters, honor our culture, and preserve our native and endangered species.
Let’s protect Papahānaumokuākea.

Mahalo for your help, aloha nō.
