Protect our Wildlife: Reduce speed limits to 50km across Tamborine Mountain & surrounds
The Issue
Growing up on Tamborine Mountain, nestled in the heart of the Scenic Rim, QLD, Australia, I have always felt a deep connection to our unique environment and the wildlife that calls it home. My commitment to wildlife and environmental protection has been unwavering since childhood. Having recently returned for a temporary stay, I am more determined than ever to leave a lasting impact on this beautiful region before my journey takes me overseas.
Our roads, while essential for connectivity, cut across areas of incredible natural beauty and ecological significance. Unfortunately, they also pose significant risks to our wildlife. It's unsettling to witness how many native animals are injured or killed everyday due to vehicle collisions. To combat this, I urge for a change that is crucial for the protection of our area's biodiversity.
By reducing the speed limit across Tamborine Mountain and surrounding critical areas to a blanket 50km per hour, we can significantly reduce the number of wildlife casualties. In areas where roads intersect with national wildlife protected parks, I propose a more stringent 40km per hour zoning to ensure the safety of vulnerable wildlife crossing points.
Statistics from various wildlife conservation groups indicate that vehicle speed is a substantial factor in wildlife road mortality rates. A reduction in speed limits has proven to be an effective measure in decreasing accidents involving fauna, ultimately preserving our precious wildlife.
Let's advocate for a safer environment where the local wildlife is protected not just by our parks, but through simple, yet impactful changes in our road use. Your support in signing this petition can drive the change needed to protect Tamborine Mountain’s unique ecological community for future generations to enjoy.
Join me in making Tamborine Mountain and surrounds, a safer haven for our treasured wildlife by signing this petition today.
