The Issue

Port St. Lucie has experienced a rapid increase in growth, bringing with it traffic congestion, noise pollution, and environmental concerns. As residents of the Heritage Oaks community, we value the tranquility and natural beauty of our surroundings, and are deeply concerned about the impact of new commercial developments planned nearby.

The proposed development poses a significant threat to our way of life and the ecological balance of our area. Increased traffic could result in higher noise levels and a greater risk of accidents on our roads. Noise pollution not only disrupts our daily lives but it poses significant, public health risk. Chronic exposure causes stress, severe sleep disturbances, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, cognitive impairment in children, and mental health issues. It acts as a stressor, activating the nervous system and increasing blood pressure.

Also, this change impacts wildlife greatly, from the birds that nest in our trees to the small creatures that call this area home.

Furthermore, the potential for erosion and environmental degradation due to construction activities cannot be understated. Our native oak and pine trees, which have stood for decades, are at risk of being compromised with all the growth the city is experiencing.  These trees are not only picturesque but play a crucial role in maintaining the local ecosystem, providing habitat for numerous species and contributing to air quality.

To mitigate these issues and preserve the quality of life in Heritage Oaks, we propose the installation of a sound barrier wall along with a berm planted with native oaks, pines and other native shubs where  the proposed  commercial  development will take place on the edge of the Heritage Oaks property from Village Parkway and Fairgreen Dr. This barrier would help to shield our community from increased noise, provide a protective buffer between our homes and the commercial zone, and create a safe enviroment  for our families  and community. The addition of native plantings will not only enhance the visual appeal but also help prevent erosion and support local wildlife.

We need your support to urge the local council and developers to consider these protective measures. By signing this petition, you're taking a step towards preserving the serene environment and safety of Heritage Oaks. Let's stand together to protect our community and our heritage for generations to come. Please sign and make a difference today.
