The government only recently lifted the 6 year ban on logging in gazetted forests. It is important to note that the ban has been a crucial measure for the protection of our forests and the preservation of our environment. Since the ban’s implementation in 2018, significant progress has been made in forest recovery. Our forests have witnessed a remarkable increase in tree population, contributing to improved biodiversity, climate regulation, water availability, and soil conservation. Assurances made by Kenya Forest Services (KFS) that only mature trees shall be harvested is a welcome relief.  Our forests are invaluable resources that provide numerous ecological, social, and economic benefits. 

This petition calls for regulation on the logging process for sustainability. Let us safeguard our biodiversity, combat climate change, ensure water security, and prevent soil erosion for the well-being of current and future generations. This petition demands:

1. Kenya Forest Service (KFS) limits the logging by licensed and approved saw millers in selected forest blocks on mature commercial trees only.

2. The strict regulation of licensed saw millers during logging by Kenya Forest Service (KFS) to ensure that only mature commercial trees are harvested and Indigenous trees are protected.
