The issue

The Learmonth community will be impacted by the proposed development of a large 30 to 50 acre 250kw Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) located only 700m away from the Learmonth township.

The site is located within a Farming Zone with an Environmental Significance Overlay and on a known flood plain, that feeds into our local waterways and water supply.

Serious concerns have been raised regarding the location of this development and the adverse impact on our environment and the health and safety of residents of Learmonth and surrounding districts including potential for contamination of our waterways, noise pollution, increased risk of dangerous chemical fires and the release of dangerous toxic gases.

The proposed BESS will change the appearance of the area from one of peaceful rural vistas to that of a large industrial area. What will be the effect on  our townships future,  our property prices and  insurance premiums?

The Learmonth BESS assessment process will be accelerated under the  Development Facilitation Program (DFP) and applications will be determined by the Minister for Planning or the Department of Transport and Planning. Decisions are now being made that affect our health, our land and our homes.

Sustainable development should not come at the cost of the community's welfare and environmental integrity.

Help us to STOP this development - "NO BESS" for Learmonth.
