Protect Our Community: Clean Up Brickyard Creek Property!

The Issue

As a concerned resident of Red Bluff, California, I am writing this petition to urge The Tehama County Board of Supervisors to take IMMEDIATE action and donate the "Brickyard Creek" property located between the new courthouse annex and Red Bluff High School. This is both the location of The Stoll Fire (2018) AND the location of the abduction, assault, murder and discovery of the body of RBHS Student Marysa Nichols (2013). This property has become a hotspot for transient activity as well as a growing location of one of the largest encampments in the city of Red Bluff, posing SIGNIFICANT risks to our community's safety, environment, and well-being.

Growing up in this area myself, and residing closely to this location for the past decade, I have witnessed firsthand the negative impact that this encampment has had on our neighborhoods. The proximity of Brickyard Creek to RBUHS and Bidwell Elementary School is particularly alarming. With over 2000 children required by law to be on those campuses during school hours, it is crucial that we secure this property from further encroachment, and potential harm to our most vulnerable population, our children.

Not only do these encampments pose risks to our children's safety but also to the hundreds of homes surrounding the area. The increased presence of transients leads to an upsurge in fire hazards, thefts, and other crimes associated with such settlements. Moreover, the environmental consequences cannot be ignored either - dumping sewage and trash into Brickyard Creek watershed threatens not only local wildlife but also pollutes our precious water resources.

To address these pressing concerns effectively, we call upon Tehama County's Board of Supervisors to donate the Brickyard Creek property for cleanup purposes. By doing so, local authorities can IMMEDIATELY remove this encampment.

Thus:

1. Creating a safer environment for our children by eliminating potential dangers associated with transient encampments.
2. Protecting vulnerable homes from increased fire risk, and crime rates often linked with such settlements.
3. Safeguarding our local ecosystem by preventing further pollution in Brickyard Creek watershed.

It is essential that we act swiftly before these issues escalate further and cause irreparable harm to our community, or worse harm to a child.

We urge Tehama County's Board of Supervisors to collaborate with local authorities and make this transaction as easy and as cost effective as they can for RBUHS. As Red Bluff Union High School has offered to cover the expense of clean up, and securing (fencing) the entire parcel inorder to prevent future risk to both campuses and students in the immediate area.

We believe that Tehama County should NOT be looking for an opportunity to make a profit at the expense of the safety of its children, and its tax payers. This problem has been allowed to grow and is the problem it is now, because of the negligence of our local governing body. Red Bluff Union High School is assuming a great expense by cleaning up the mess and securing the property, which in itself is a financial savings for Tehama County.

Together, parents, grandparents, residents, concerned citizens, tax payers and voters, can make a difference in Red Bluff! Sign this petition today to show your support for the gifting of this parcel to RBUHS, so they may clean up the Brickyard Creek property and protect our students and community from the situation that has been allowed by our local government.

Thank you for standing with us in this crucial endeavor!
