Protect Our Children's Health: No Smoking in Parks!

The Issue

As a former smoker and current vaper, be assured this is not a bias argument. I am deeply concerned about the health and well-being of our children. It is our responsibility as adults to create a safe and clean environment for them to thrive in. That is why I am starting this petition to urge the local authorities in Hereford to ban smoking in children's parks.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), secondhand smoke contains more than 7,000 chemicals, hundreds of which are toxic and at least 69 are known to cause cancer. Children exposed to secondhand smoke are at an increased risk of developing respiratory infections, asthma attacks, ear infections, and even sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

Asthma is one of the most common chronic diseases among children worldwide. In Hereford alone, there are numerous cases where children suffer from asthma or other respiratory conditions that make it difficult for them to breathe properly. For these kids, going to the park should be an opportunity for fun and play without any additional risks.

Parents who bring their children to parks expect a clean and safe environment where their little ones can run freely without being exposed to harmful substances such as cigarette smoke. However, it is disheartening that some individuals continue smoking near playgrounds despite knowing its potential harm.

By implementing a ban on smoking in children's parks within Hereford, we can ensure that these spaces remain healthy environments for all kids. This initiative will protect not only those with existing respiratory conditions but also prevent future generations from suffering unnecessary health issues caused by exposure to secondhand smoke.

Let us come together as responsible citizens who prioritize the well-being of our children. Sign this petition to demand that the local authorities take immediate action to prohibit smoking in children's parks in Hereford. Together, we can create a positive change and safeguard the health of our future generation.

Thank you for your support!
