Islamic schools should be places where children can learn, grow, and practise their faith without fearing for their safety.

Following the circulation of an anonymous letter containing hate-motivated threats directed toward Islamic centres and institutions in Peel Region, many Muslim families are understandably concerned about the safety of their children. Peel Regional Police has confirmed that its Hate Crime Unit is actively investigating the matter and has increased officer presence near mosques and schools.

While increased police patrols are an important immediate response, our children's safety cannot be limited to the days following a threat.

We are calling on Olive Grove School, ISNA Schools, and other Islamic schools and institutions in Peel Region to implement dedicated, trained security personnel on school premises during all operating hours, every school day.

Children spend hours each day at school. Parents should not have to wonder whether their child's school is adequately protected, particularly after threats have been directed toward institutions serving their religious community.

This petition is not about creating fear. It is about taking reasonable precautions to protect children.

We urge school administrations, boards, community leaders, and other responsible stakeholders to work together to establish consistent, long-term security measures at Islamic schools across Peel Region.
