I'm drafting this petition today, moved by the situation of a friend. Due to systemic failures, she cannot even access the healthcare she desperately needs. She has been bleeding internally and her job doesn’t provide healthcare and she’s right in that bracket where you’re scraping by, yet don’t get approved for free healthcare. So she isn’t able to afford her care… Many similar stories exist within our country; showcasing the heartbreaking reality that many people, even if willing, cannot access our healthcare system.

The threat at hand is the proposed house budget resolution, which may have catastrophic effects on healthcare funds. This budget, if passed, could prevent many of us and our children from having secure and necessary health coverage. The healthcare system should exist to protect and provide for us, not exclude and neglect the people in need.

According to a report from the Congressional Budget Office, budget cuts could lead to millions losing their healthcare over the next decade ("Federal Subsidies for Health Insurance Coverage for People Under Age 65", 2019). We need to ensure that our healthcare funds and services remain available and accessible to everyone, and are not threatened by budget resolutions or other such proposals.

We urge lawmakers to consider the dire medical conditions of citizens like my friend and so many others. We implore you to keep our healthcare fund secure and excluded from any budget resolution cuts. This is a matter of health, of heart, and indeed, of lives that could be saved.

We cannot stand by while people in need are denied healthcare. We must protect our health funds, for our children, for our families, and for ourselves. Sign this petition to secure our right to healthcare.
