The Issue

(NOT OFFICIALLY AFFILIATED W/ SYCAMORE HIGH SCHOOL)

In a disappointing development at Sycamore High School, our AP art students faced an unexpected and unfair change this year when the administration decided to combine Advanced Placement (AP) art classes with lower-level ones. This includes AP Drawing, AP 3-D Art & Design, and AP Photography. This decision blindsided many of us and diminished the educational experience we signed up for. We are determined to prevent this oversight from happening again to future classes.

The AP art program is designed to challenge students at the highest level and foster an environment where creativity and advanced skills can thrive. Our teachers work hard every year to create these environments where they can work one-on-one with our AP students. By merging these classes with introductory-level courses, the specialized focus needed for AP art students is compromised. Sycamore High School is notorious for our excellence in fine arts education, and this change contradicts that very idea. By combining our AP classes with lower-level ones, we're risking the quality and integrity of both our AP art classes AS WELL as the lower-level ones.

We propose that the Sycamore administration create a separate bell schedule for AP art courses, allowing AP students to have the dedicated class time they deserve. This would not only ensure that AP students receive the thorough education they need but also validate the hard work and dedication they have already shown by working up to the AP level.

We urge our community, students, parents, and educators to come together and advocate for a change for the benefit of our students. By signing this petition, you're supporting the artistic excellence that Sycamore High School has demonstrated in years past. Let's ensure that no future class has to endure the same heartbreaking setback. Please add your voice to this important effort by signing the petition now, and thank you in advance. Go Aves!
