Every day, across our community, dogs are being bred without oversight, regulation, or compassion. These unlicensed breeders - often operating in secrecy - are not just cutting corners. They are endangering the health of animals, exploiting female dogs as breeding machines, diluting the integrity of beloved breeds, and contributing to the overcrowding crisis in our local shelters. 

Enough is enough. 

We, the undersigned residents of Newfane and surrounding areas, call for the immediate implementation of stricter penalties for unlicensed breeding operations. This includes higher fines, mandatory reporting of suspected illegal breeders, and empowered enforcement by animal control authorities.

Unlicensed backyard breeders:

• Prioritize profit over animal welfare.
• Rarely screen for genetic conditions, resulting in sick and suffering litters. 
• Often keep animals in inhumane conditions. 
• Fuel a tragic cycle where dogs are abandoned, surrendered, or euthanized - simply because they were bred without purpose or care.

Meanwhile, thousands of adoptable dogs in our shelters sit in cages, overlooked and unwanted, while unethical breeders flood the area with puppies for profit.
