Protect Nova Scotia. Say NO to Fracking! Safeguard Our Water, Land & Climate
The Issue
Premier Tim Houstons proposal to lift Nova Scotias fracking ban under the guise of uranium exploration is more than just a policy shift it’s a gateway to shale gas extraction. A far bigger threat to our environment, communities and economy.
While uranium mining often uses safer methods like In Situ Recovery (ISR) lifting the fracking ban removes critical legal barriers that currently prevent large scale shale gas fracking. This change could open the floodgates to shale gas companies eager to exploit Nova Scotias resources. Risking groundwater contamination with toxic chemicals.
SAFE Fracking? ask Alberta. Canadas energy powerhouse has seen firsthand the devastating impacts of fracking on its environment, public health and local indigenous communities. Widespread fracking operations have led to contaminated groundwater, increased seismic activity and air pollution leaving long term scars on the provinces landscapes and communities. In regions like Fox Creek, fracking has triggered multiple earthquakes directly linked to high pressure wastewater injection. Beyond seismic risks Alberta has struggled with methane leaks. A major contributor to climate change, and water contamination that has affected nearby farms and ecosystems. Farmers have reported high levels of heavy metals including uranium and strontium in their soil and water impacting agriculture and livestock & Food Security. Despite being a hub for Canadas oil and gas industry, Alberta’s experience highlights the unintended consequences of unchecked fracking from environmental degradation to economic strain as communities deal with long term clean up costs.
Nova Scotia must learn from Albertas mistakes. Lifting the fracking ban doesn’t just threaten our water and ecosystems it opens the door to similar environmental, health and economic risks that communities in Alberta continue to face.
Nova Scotia has long been protected by its fracking ban, but if lifted there’s no turning back. What starts with uranium could quickly escalate into widespread shale gas fracking putting communities natural resources and our economy at risk.
We The People demand that Premier Houston and the Nova Scotia government:
• Maintain the existing fracking ban to prevent shale gas development.
• Conduct independent environmental impact assessments before changing any resource extraction laws.
• Prioritize renewable energy solutions over short term resource exploitation.
• Respect Indigenous lands and consult communities most affected by these decisions.
• Protect Nova Scotias legacy of natural beauty & CLEAN water
We stand united for a frack free Nova Scotia. Dont undermine our provinces commitment to a greener more sustainable future.
This is our chance to say NO to fracking and YES to a clean sustainable future. Sign the petition today and help protect Nova Scotias water, land and communities for generations to come. Support the Movement. Share the Message.
