Protect Mukono District Wetlands from Urbanization and Industrialization

Protect Mukono District Wetlands from Urbanization and Industrialization
The Issue
My young sisters, Cathy and Martha, wake up early every morning to attend their daily lessons at Eagles Wings P/S. However, the unpredictable weather patterns due to wetland encroachment often disrupt their journey. Unexpected rainfalls lead to flooding in our community in Mukono district, Uganda. The rivers overflow with garbage and the stench becomes unbearable.
These wetlands are not just important for my family's daily life but also play a crucial role in our environment. They act as carbon sinks for the CO2 produced by industries around us. Yet, they are being destroyed due to increased urbanization and industrialization without any accountability.
The destruction of these wetlands has led not only to increased flooding but also crop failure due to erratic rain and weather patterns. This is a matter of urgent concern that requires collective responsibility.
We must stand together against this environmental degradation that threatens our community's livelihoods and children's education. We demand that those responsible for this damage be held accountable.
Let us protect these vital ecosystems for future generations while ensuring the safety of our current communities from natural disasters exacerbated by climate change.
Please sign this petition today so we can save Mukono district’s wetlands from further encroachment!
