Dear Supporters,

We are writing to our 25,000+ supporters to share yet another update about the wild horse situation in Mt Charleston. As you may recall, on March 30th, a group called Wildfire's Wild and Free Mustangs posted publicly on Facebook saying that the United States Forest Service (USFS) had "chosen and CONTRACTED" them to be the "lifetime caretakers " of the seven Mt Charleston horses. Fox News then immediately published a report regurgitating this claim (note that this report didn't include a statement from the USFS).

Yet, a different story was told by the USFS yesterday. On April 28th, 2025, representatives from the USFS (Jeremy Dorsey, Meagan Carter, and Kathryn Gulley) held  a "public" meeting (although apparently they didn't care to publicize this "public" meeting) at the Bureau of Land Management and the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area Office (4701 Torrey Springs). At this meeting, USFS District Ranger Jeremy Dorsey specifically stated that while a number of folks have put in applications to adopt the Mt Charleston horses, no applications have been officially accepted.

It is thus puzzling that Wildfire's Wild and Free Mustangs has been, since March 30th, begging the public for donations for the Mt Charleston horses. They've even created a GofundMe titled "Donate to Help Us Keep the Mt Charleston Wild Horse Family Safe," and encourage people to donate by referencing an alleged "contract" they have with the USFS.

So, for many, yesterday's meeting raised more questions than it answered.

Moreover, questions about the costs of the planned relocation were specifically asked by both a Mt Charleston resident and Jhovani Carrillo with KTNV Las Vegas (Channel 13). Instead of answering this important and timely question, the USFS representives evasively directed folks to reach out to "the public information officer."

Clearly, there is a concerning lack of transparency here.

We encourage folks to keep making their concerns about this issue known and demanding government transparency in the handling of wild horses and the costs associated with these morally and legally questionable "relocations."
