Petition updateProtect Mt Charleston's Wild Horses!USFS is Planning (Once Again) Horse Roundup: Act now!

Dear supporters,

We started this petition to protect the Mt Charleston horses almost a year ago, and were told by Joshua Nicholes, the former acting area manager of the USFS in the Spring Mountains, that "Neither myself nor any other line officer that may proceed me will be making any plans [about relocating the horses] without first informing and seeking feedback from the community."

Unfortunately, this is anything but true. Fox News reported yesterday that the USFS will be moving the horses in Kyle Canyon to Wildfire's Wild and Free Mustangs. And the public wasn't given an opportunity to provide feedback, as we were promised by the USFS. We weren't notified of this plan via USFS news releases and social media posts as the USFS said we would be.

We remain in strong opposition to this decision. This is, in part, because when we visited this "sanctuary's" website, we couldn't find an address listed for the sanctuary, photos of the sanctuary, pictures of any animals they have rescued (or any evidence that they have ever rescued any animals in the past), or even information about the "founders" or any single person involved with the "sanctuary" (or their expertise in rescuing wild animals):

When we visited this "sanctuary's" social media, we didn't find much there, either (e.g., the address listed there apparently is just an address of a "PostNet" Office). But what we did find was a March 20, 2025 "urgent request" for funding for an animal named "Phoenix," who was in need of surgery. If this "sanctuary" is in "dire need" of financial support for ONE surgery how can they possibly afford to take on the medical and feeding costs associated with rescuing 7 wild horses? (And actually this sanctuary will likely take in 8 horses total, as one is apparently pregnant at the moment)

If you, like those of us who started this petition, remain concerned about the well-being of the Mt Charleston horses and the USFS's repeated failure to protect them, we encourage you to MAKE YOUR VOICES HEARD! Share this petition and consider emailing the Spring Mountains USFS Area Manager: Kathryn Gulley @ kathryn.gulley@usda.gov & Jon Stansfield@ jon.stansfield@usda.gov.

Now is the time to join together to be the voices for these magnificent creatures who cannot speak for themselves!
