Mobin Baziar, a deaf man from Rasht, Iran, has reportedly been arrested and charged with moharebeh (enmity against God), one of the most serious charges under Iranian law. According to reports, Mobin is unable to adequately defend himself due to his hearing impairment.

As a deaf individual, Mobin faces severe barriers in communication, especially within interrogation and legal proceedings. Without proper access to qualified sign language interpreters and legal representation, he cannot meaningfully understand the accusations against him or defend himself in court. This places him in an extremely vulnerable and unjust position.

Charging a person who cannot fully communicate or defend himself raises grave concerns about fairness, transparency, and due process. Every individual, regardless of disability, has the fundamental right to a fair trial, legal representation, and accessible communication in judicial proceedings.

We urgently call on the relevant authorities to:

1. Ensure Mobin Baziar has immediate access to qualified sign language interpreters.
2. Guarantee full legal representation and transparent legal proceedings.
3. Review the charges against him in a fair and just manner.
4. Protect his physical and psychological safety while in custody.
