The Issue

My name is John, and this is personal to me. The reason why is simple - I've struggled with mental health issues for as long as I can remember.

As a young boy battling depression, I was lucky enough to have parents who could foot the bill for therapy and medication. But not everyone is as lucky. Today, millions of Americans struggle with mental health issues. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, nearly one in five U.S. adults live with a mental illness (46.6 million in 2017). But a large number of these individuals can't get the help they need due to lack of health insurance cover.

It's disheartening to know that insurance companies, who have the power to make a huge difference, don't see mental health as a priority. The American Psychological Association states that the number of uninsured mental health care individuals is in significant numbers, even though mental illnesses are common health conditions.

We must make it a requirement for insurance companies to cover mental health services - we need to ensure that anyone who is struggling with their mental health can get the care they need, no matter their financial situation.

This is not just about me or my story. It's about everyone struggling to receive mental health services because they cannot afford it. Let's urge insurance companies, law-makers and providers to take action.

Please sign this petition and help give people the mental health care they need and deserve.
