Protect Local Murals at Franklin St Studios – Support Macon Artists & Community Identity

Protect Local Murals at Franklin St Studios – Support Macon Artists & Community Identity
The Issue
Macon community and art lovers! We need your support! We recently completed two murals on our art studio building Franklin St Studios at 164 Franklin St in downtown Macon. The front mural features Georgia peach branches, a classic symbol of Macon and Georgia as a whole. The other celebrates the Macon Mayhem, our local hockey team that brings so much joy and excitement to our city.
We are a small business founded in Macon in 2019. We are locally owned and operated, and everything we do is rooted in this community.
These murals were created by local Macon artists who work within our building. This was not done by outside parties. This project reflects the people, creativity, and culture that live in Macon and the artistic expression.
This was intended as a love letter to Macon. The goal was to beautify the property, add color, and contribute something positive to the surrounding area. The peach mural reflects Georgia’s identity. The Macon Mayhem mural supports a local team that brings energy and pride to the city.
We are grateful for the overwhelmingly positive response to the murals we have received, but unfortunately one complaint has caused Planning and Zoning to take action against us in an effort to edit or remove the murals. We have been asked to appear before the Design Review Board and City Commission regarding these murals. The Design Review Board meeting will be April 6th at 4 PM and the Commission Hearing will be April 13th at 1:30 PM. We only have a few weeks to get community support and make our case for the murals.
These murals improve the appearance of the property, support local artists, and contribute to the character of the neighborhood. They were created with intention and local involvement to add value to the community.
We are requesting that the City of Macon and the Planning and Zoning department allow these murals to remain and support a reasonable path forward for local art like this.
If you support local artists, locally owned businesses, and efforts to improve Macon, sign below.
Please help us by leaving a comment sharing your thoughts on the murals!
