As a member of the LGBTQ community, I have personally experienced discrimination and know many others who face similar challenges, especially those living in homophobic states. This is not just about me; it's about all of us who identify as LGBTQ. We deserve to live freely without fear of discrimination or prejudice. Despite progress made over the years, we still face significant hurdles in achieving equal rights. According to a 2020 report by Human Rights Campaign, 29 states in the U.S lack comprehensive legal protections for LGBTQ people leaving them vulnerable to discrimination (Human Rights Campaign). This needs to change now! We are calling on lawmakers at all levels - local, state and federal - to enact laws that protect our rights and promote equality for everyone regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
