Protect Las Vegas air—support full enforcement of Nevada’s new emissions law
The Issue
Las Vegas already struggles with some of the worst air quality in the country—and illegal vehicle modifications are making it worse.
Senate Bill 80, signed into law in June, is a major step forward. Starting in October, it will be illegal in Nevada to tamper with a car’s emissions system or use devices designed to cheat smog checks. That means no more straight pipes, no more illegal mods, and no more emulator devices flooding our roads.
This isn’t just about noise or racing—it’s about clean air and public health. Tailpipe emissions are a leading source of pollution in the Las Vegas Valley, and every tampered car puts more toxins into our lungs. Children, seniors, and people with asthma are hit the hardest.
We’re calling on the Nevada DMV, Clark County leaders, and state enforcement officials to fully implement and enforce SB80 by investing in public education, expanding inspections, and prioritizing air quality across the Las Vegas Valley.
The law is written. Now it needs to work. Let’s clear the air—together.
