The Issue

As someone who has a profound connection with Lake Sabine, my heart sinks knowing that Diligence Management plans to forge ahead with installing wind turbines in our precious lake, shared between Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana. This natural beauty, apart from providing a source of fresh fish and seafood to the local communities, also serves as a crucial habitat for migratory birds, butterflies, and numerous other wildlife species.

I fear that the wind turbines will create an immense disruption in our eco-system. Activities like fishing and crabbing, partaking in fishing tournaments, and duck hunting - which we thoroughly cherish - could be severely affected. The potential consequences for our wildlife, especially the migratory birds and butterflies, could be tragic to imagine. We also need to consider the disastrous repercussions of an unexpected failure leading to oil leaks. Such an incident could disrupt waterway traffic crucial to three ports, numerous refineries, and essential military transports out of Beaumont.

Concerningly, I have learned that the lease Diligence Management has offered is not appropriate for a project of its magnitude. Our city and its citizens need robust safeguarding and representation against such high-stake projects. Therefore, I call upon the city of Port Arthur to hire an environmental attorney specializing in these types of projects urgently. By doing so, we hope to ensure our rights and interests and, most importantly, the health of our Lake Sabine are well-protected.

Lake Sabine is not merely a body of water - it is our lifestyle, livelihood, and a priceless natural asset. Its preservation must be our priority. Join me in challenging this threatening wind turbine project. Sign our petition.
