The issue

Kurrajong Park is the heart of our community, and I am writing this with a heavy heart as its future is threatened. This park is a sanctuary for the families and children in our neighbourhood, offering a safe haven for play, relaxation, and community gatherings. Every week, countless children laugh and play here, their parents watching over as they create cherished memories. We cannot let these memories, nor this safe space, be overshadowed by the looming presence of a massive community battery.

The Federal Government, Western Power, and the State Government have proposed the installation of this battery at Kurrajong Park, located on the corner of Kurrajong and Callistemon Approach, Atwell. While we recognize the importance of renewable energy for grid stability and environmental protection, the placement within our beloved park is deeply inappropriate.

Kurrajong Park is not just a stretch of green; it is the vibrant cornerstone of our community life. Its lush environment is where we connect with nature, engage with our community, and more importantly, it’s a place where our children are safe and free to explore. Allowing this installation would strip away essential recreational space that has been, and should remain, dedicated to community use.

This proposed site selection will lead to:
1. Death of a cherished green space: Our park’s vibrant ecosystem and beautiful landscape would face severe disruption.
2. Compromised safety: The presence of a large battery unit poses potential health and safety risks to our children and park-goers.
3. Loss of community spirit: With less space to gather, our community interactions would diminish, affecting the social fabric that binds us together.

Our ask is simple yet imperative: Relocate the battery installation to a more suitable area, one that won’t disrupt public leisure spaces or endanger our community’s welfare.

Please join us in challenging this decision. Stand with us to protect Kurrajong Park, ensuring it remains a place for enjoyment, gatherings, and the freedom every child deserves to play within. Your signature is a powerful voice for change. Help us keep Kurrajong Park a place of laughter and unity.

Sign this petition to demand a better site selection that respects our community's needs and preserves the essence of Kurrajong Park for future generations.
