PETITION - PROTECT KALBARRI FROM HEAVY INDUSTRY AND OFFSHORE WIND FARMS

The natural environment surrounding Kalbarri is one of the most beautiful, intact coastal wilderness areas in Australia,
and apart from pastoral grazing activities remains unaltered by the hands of man to this day. The tiny town of Kalbarri
is made up of people who love the ocean, the river the natural beauty, the surfing, the fishing, the remoteness and joy
of living in nature.

The red rock gorges of the Murchison River to the east of town, the spectacular sea cliffs to the south, and the
incredibly biodiverse “natural botanical garden” surrounding them are protected by the Kalbarri National Park.

There is no significant “industry” within 160km of town and the local economy is based around tourism, cray
fishing and fishing.

Twice every year in Winter the humpback whales pass by close to shore, often resting for a few days on their way to
and from the calving grounds in the Kimberley.
More than 200,000 tourists visit Kalbarri each year for surfing, whale watching, charter fishing, boat tours and to
explore the National Park.
Now a foreign-controlled company is proposing to build a giant industrial complex including desalination plant,
hydrogen plant, ammonia plant and concrete plant, 10ha of solar panels and 700 windmills, a 2km undersea pipeline
and offshore liquid ammonia ship loading facility to the north of town, within sight of Kalbarri.

And another foreign-controlled company is proposing to build an additional 200 windmills, each up to 385m tall,
offshore from Kalbarri right in the middle of the Humpback whale migration pathway.
Kalbarri is beautiful and pristine, not an appropriate site for heavy industry.

We call upon the WA State and Australian Commonwealth Governments to recognise Kalbarri and the surrounding
land and waters as a “jewel in the crown” of Australian tourism and to protect it’s pristine, unspoiled state by rejecting
the Murchison Green Hydrogen Project Application, rejecting the Midwest Offshore Wind Farm Project Application
and enacting the neccessary legislation to ban heavy industry and offshore wind farm developments from being
constructed in our region into the future.
