Protect Junk Food in SNAP Benefits in Ohio

The Issue

Let me tell you something Cleveland City Mayor Justin Bibb, Ohio's Democratic lawmakers, community members, and advocates, We're going to protest Protect Junk Food in SNAP Benefits in Ohio. In 2026, our lives will be directly impacted by the proposed policies of the Healthy SNAP Act of 2025. We're targeting our protest against influential figures like U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Brooke L. Rollins, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., governor Mike DeWine, and Ohio senator Jon Husted. I'm very disappointing about the imposition of restricting junk food from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits threatens to change how SNAP recipients in Ohio, and potentially across the country, access food is illegal.

Ohio's Republican senator Jon Husted, let's halt the process of signing this restrictive act into law, an act that seeks to dictate what SNAP recipients can purchase. For many families in Ohio, the struggle to afford diverse food options is real, and limiting access to popular affordable food items will only exacerbate this issue.

The push to ban junk food from SNAP is framed in the light of promoting health, but it overlooks the importance of choice and the economic realities faced by SNAP recipients. SNAP should empower recipients with the freedom to choose foods that fit their lifestyle and budget, not enforce stringent limitations.

Statistics have shown that food deserts and limited access to grocery stores make healthier options harder to come by, especially in low-income neighborhoods. Additionally, convenience is an often overlooked factor; junk foods tend to be more affordable and easier to prepare, making them a necessary option for many busy families.

We're going to stand up, we will continue to fight back and support junk food in SNAP benefits in the community. This petition is a stand for fairness and respect for personal choice, urging Secretary Brooke L. Rollins and Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to reconsider the impacts of the Healthy SNAP Act. Help us tell local leaders in Ohio to prioritize empowerment and trust in SNAP recipients’ choices. Let it be clear! Let's say no to state-controlled dieting and yes to food autonomy. Join us in protecting the freedoms of SNAP beneficiaries — Please sign this petition to prevent the unwarranted restriction of junk foods from SNAP in Ohio. And urge your Members of Ohio's Democratic Congress and call Cleveland City Mayor Justin Bibb to protect junk food for SNAP benefits! Anyway, Grocery stores, supermarkets, and convenience stores in Ohio is no longer for restricting junk food from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits in this community.

Let’s stop the punishment and start with partnership. People on SNAP deserve support, not stigma. Ohio state republican lawmakers should reject these restrictive junk food bans and instead invest in positive, practical programs that actually improve nutrition outcomes. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
