Protect Jonathan Dickinson State Park: stop the golf courses!

Protect Jonathan Dickinson State Park: stop the golf courses!
The Issue
This petition is to oppose the 'Greenside Oasis Golf Complex' that is set to be installed into Jonathan Dickinson State Park. This proposed recreation area will add 3 golf courses into Jonathan Dickinson State Park, taking out the historic tower, and over 1000 acres of native wildlife habitat. The area is home to many species that live exclusively in Florida’s scrub brush including the Scrub Jay whose population has seen a 90% decrease since 1990 due to destruction of habitat.
The amount of development in the area for these golf courses would destroy not just the habitat directly where the golf courses will go, but also the surrounding environment. Fertilizer runoff, parking lots, club houses and bathrooms- all things that come with golf courses. Along with foot traffic and golf carts disturbing endangered native wildlife like gopher tortoises and the Florida Scrub Lizard. The Florida Scrub habitat is the most endangered in the state with only 10-15% of the original environment remaining.
There are already at least 47 golf courses between Stuart and Jupiter. That is FOURTY SEVEN golf courses in a 20 mile radius; we do not need to destroy a beloved state park to add any more. I’m devastated that as a community we even have to worry about this. Florida land and Florida wildlife is precious. They're not making any more of it. Once it's gone, it's gone and I’m personally sick of seeing my home ruined. If you or any of your friends/ family have ever gotten the chance to enjoy JD park please take the time to sign, or contact state legislators to stop the development.
