Help protect innocent men wrongfully accused of domestic violence — Before It's Too Late

We're calling for urgent public support to demand a review of the 2024 changes to the Family Domestic Violence Order laws before they become permanent.

This isn't about protecting abusers — it's about protecting the innocent men who are being wrongly punished under these changes.

Imagine the devastating impact on a man's life when he is falsely accused. His reputation, relationships, and mental health are put on trial, receiving an unjust conviction that follows him for life.

 

💔 Our Story

I'm speaking out because the man I love — a kind, wonderful man — was falsely accused under the new version of the FDVO law.

He, like many others, has mental health challenges. Instead of getting support, the system turned on him, using his illness against him and trialed him while still ill without a decent defence and falsified paperwork, lied to me, preventing me from being able to attend in his defence as I was assured I'd be allowed to do. He’s now stuck under an order he can’t fight, for something he didn’t do, and I, the so-called "protected person," who wasn't even allowed to defend him when he was rushed through the system while still unwell, have been forced to do the work of everyone while having been made homeless by this matter. Not protected at all, actually prevented from the protection and support of the one person to whom has ever supported me. 

 

*We are one of what has now been discovered to be a shocking increase to 752 known cases in our district alone, where innocent men have been targeted by misuse of these laws. (Recently updated figures)

(That makes currently - as those numbers keep growing every day - now 587 people so far that have been effected, and/or are in agreement that this law needs to be addressed. As I continue to research the matter and promote the petition I discover more and more people affected, and I update this section often. This number also includes in-person-signings, and those whom cannot sign but have been effected. I got a lot on Christmas Eve alone that made those numbers go up with in person signings). 

Many are not allowed to sign because of their legal matters and some are too frightened to, incase it makes their situation worse.

Totally understandable. 

I still include them anonymously because they still matter, in fact them being silenced or robbed of their voices is just another insidious factor of this entire mess made by these changes to the DV laws.

Those whom need to be anonymous are those whom are men in the mess of this law. Literally the ones I am fighting for. So while I'm sure the government will ignore these figures it's still important to know just how many men have been wrongfully accused. Because the law lets them be when they haven't done anything wrong. The more signatures we can get FOR them will help their voices be heard.

 

Personally, since losing the one I love to this botched law and fractured process, my life has fallen apart.

Emotionally. Financially. I’ve lost the one person who supported me in every way and cared for me through my own health issues and the worst part? Real abusers in our lives are walking free, continuing to harm us while people like him and me are being torn apart by a system that claims to protect us.

I am endlessly harmed by society and insulted drastically by legal channels for daring to speak up and I am name-called many nasty things for refusing to give up.

I've lost mamy accommodations in the last few months because of this too and am managing this fight from the streets all because of this law.

 

⚠️ What’s Wrong with the 2024 Amendment?

 

* It traps innocent men, especially men with mental health issues, with no way to prove their innocence.

 

* It forces families apart, even when both sides want to stay together and there is no danger to either. 

 

* It’s so rigid that even the protected person can’t speak up without social ridicule and legal neglect and insult or worse. 

 

* Meanwhile, many actual abusers ignore these orders, and police are often unaware of them in real cases — making everyone ill-informed and unsafe.

 

* It’s overwhelming the system with false cases, making it harder to protect people truly at risk.

 

This amendment was meant to protect people — but it’s hurting families, destroying lives, and letting real violence fall through the cracks.

 

 

❗ We’re Demanding:

 

1. A full public review of the 2024 FDVO amendment before it becomes permanent.

 

2. Safeguards to protect innocent men, especially those with mental health conditions. NO ONE should be trialed and convicted while sick and without a decent defence. This includes alterations to legal process that will cater to protect those with mental health issues. 

 

3. A fair way for families to challenge or correct false accusations without being punished for it or being forced to spend a year separated because prosecution ignores paper work and is too frightened of legal action to correct their mistakes.

 

4. Changes to the Revoke of innocent men paperwork so that each person is given a fair and decent opportunity to be heard and present evidence, because current process have Revoke as an option but it is NOT even considered and one dose not get to speak in their defence. 

 

5. The complete clearing of all false DV charges effective IMMEDIATELY from the records of all men innocent of DV (with legal documented proof given to them) and the chance for all effected to lodge for reimbursement for demages sustained as a result of these wrongful charges. 

 

 

✊ Why This Matters

 

This could happen to your brother, your son, your partner, your friend — or you. 

 

No one should be ripped from their family because of a flawed policy with no checks and no voice for the innocent and no innocent man should live in fear of his every breath being mistook for violence because of a fractured policy. 

 

We still believe in protecting people from REAL domestic violence but not by just letting innocent men suffer for it. The excuse that police and courts and government give claiming this new policy protects real DV cases from further harm is not okay. Yes! Real DV cases need better laws and better protection but not at the expense of hundreds of innocent men. Innocent means they didn't do anything wrong but they pay the price for men who do? That is sick and wrong and not acceptable.

It needs to change. This is NOT how you capture men whom are actually a threat. It's a smoke screen they hide in and get away while the innocent and their families suffer GREATLY.

There ARE good men out there and they do not deserve wrongful prosecution for something they didn't do.

Note: We will also be holding a petition in the new year to support men whom are being abused to get those rights official acknowledge and supported. REAL Domestic Violence on anyone is not okay but neither is accusing and punishing men whom didn't do it.
