We did it. Thanks to relentless advocacy from students, families, and especially staff, AP Calculus BC is officially staying in the 2025–26 Corvallis School District course catalog. This is a huge win. Just months ago, this advanced course was on the chopping block. Now, because our community organized and spoke out, it's been restored.

This isn’t just about one class. Although the district’s current math pathways already make it difficult (and sometimes impossible) for students to reach this level by senior year, eliminating AP Calculus BC would’ve sent a clear message: that students aiming for the highest levels of math aren’t a priority. We refused to accept that, and we won.

Now we have a chance to build on this progress.

That’s why I and many student leaders are endorsing Chris Blacker for School Board Position 1.

Chris has made it clear: he supports full math pathways for every ability level, not watered-down solutions. He understands that academic rigor and equitable access must go hand in hand. He’s been consistent, transparent, and supportive of students from the start.

In contrast, incumbent Sami Al-Abdrabbuh voted to approve the very detracking policy that created this mess. At the recent Corvallis Advocate debate, he tried to walk it back—taking a “neutral” stance and saying he would “wait for data” before taking a side. That’s not leadership. That’s backpedaling.

The choice is clear. Chris Blacker stands with students and he doesn’t wait for pressure to do the right thing.
