Evusheld is an antibody treatment for immunocompromised people who may not build robust immune responses to COVID vaccines. Evusheld has been in short supply in the U.S., difficult to access, and not well-publicized. It was found to be effective in protecting immunocompromised people from earlier variants of COVID. However, the Omicron 4.6 variant seems to be able to evade the neutralizing antibodies in the Evusheld formulation. The Omicron 4.6 variant currently accounts for at least seven percent of all COVID infections in the US, according to CDC data.
Immunocompromised and high-risk people need more protections at this time, especially after the CDC's new guidelines, which erode protections for immunocompromised and high-risk people, especially children attending public schools. We need renewed funding for COVID vaccines, treatments, tests, etc. through the U.S. government. Thank you for signing this petition asking for renewed funding through the U.S. Congress. Please consider also signing the action letter to Congressional leaders and the White House from the People's CDC.
Finally, some of us might not have robust responses to the new booster, but it might still be well worth getting one!
