Protect Haitian Families - Defend TPS

Protect Haitian Families - Defend TPS
The Issue
On June 27, 2025, the Trump administration ended Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitians. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem announced that TPS would be terminated for Haitians effective September 2, 2025, and about 500k Haitians are at risk for deportation. The administration argued that Haiti was safe and no longer meets the criteria for TPS. However, the U.S State department still lists Haiti under a level 4 travel advisory.
What is TPS? Temporary Protected Status is for people from countries facing war, disaster, or unsafe conditions, which is what Haiti is going through right now. Many individuals are in danger because of the amount of gangs that are currently all over Haiti, especially in Port-au-Prince. Many Haitians have been reported kidnapped, where the kidnappers would ask for ransom of hundreds or even thousands of dollars or the person would be killed. Even in situations where the kidnappers would get the money, they would still kill the person. These are the issues Haitians are still facing today and the United States has claimed that Haiti has improved when it clearly hasn’t. Many Haitians have come to the United States to better their lives but also protect their loved ones.
This is not the first time Trump has targeted Haitians. The current president has stated that Haitians would eat dogs and cats creating a stereotype for Haitians. He has also deported numerous Haitians under the assumption that all of them are “criminals,” or that they are here illegally.
Many people claim they would not want to come to Haiti due to the amount of instability in this country, then why would you want innocent people to come back to their country to have them suffer?
If TPS is no longer available for Haitians, every Haitian under this status will no longer be protected and will be deported when Haiti is not safe. If TPS is still available, then many Haitians will be able to escape the kidnappings and gangs while they better their lives here.
TPS has already ended, but it is not in effect yet. This is why it’s important to educate your fellow family members and friends about this. Tell them what’s happening currently and advise them to sign this petition to hopefully stop the end of TPS for Haitians.
