Protect gun rights at the state and local levels by repealing the Second Amendment

The Issue

For years, those in the federal government have used the ambiguity of the Second Amendment to meddle where they shouldn't. Different states have different needs for gun laws and regulations. Rural, urban, and suburban areas also have different needs. Congress can't do anything, because they're deadlocked over the issue. And state and local governments cannot do anything either, because they can't override the Second Amendment.

Gun rights are something that should protected at the state and local levels. The solution is obvious. We need to call on Congress to start legislation to repeal the Second Amendment, and then the amendment needs to be sent out to the states so that the American people can actually have a say in what gun rights means to them. New York can do what they want and Texas can do what they want, without being accountable to the NRA or the federal government. They will never put it to a vote by the actual citizens of the United States if we don't force them to.

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." Why are we wasting time trying to figure out what this means, rather than figuring out what the United States of America needs? Repeal the Second Amendment right now, and then we can write something that actually makes sense in each state. We need to get the federal government to stop meddling in states' rights. The wording need only be as simple as the Twenty-First Amendment: "The second article of amendment to the Constitution of the United States is hereby repealed."

Mass shootings continue to happen at an alarming rate in the United States. The federal government has proven time and again they either cannot or will not pass competent gun legislation to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill. If we want to protect children and gun rights, we have to take the issue out of the hands of a useless federal government. And the only way to do that is by pressuring the federal government to send an amendment to the states for ratification.
