Protect Federal Employees from OPM’s Chaos

The Issue

The federal government’s workforce is under siege. Unauthorized outsiders with no security clearances have seized control of critical government networks, illegally installed servers, and locked federal employees out of their own systems. Sensitive data, including the personal information of millions of federal workers, has been compromised. Meanwhile, federal employees are being harassed, threatened, and pressured to resign—while Congress does nothing.

At the center of this crisis is Elon Musk’s handpicked aides, who have taken over OPM’s IT infrastructure without legal authority. These individuals, who are not federal employees, now have access to government systems, sensitive personnel files, and potentially even financial data.

At the same time, a campaign of misinformation is being used to justify purging the federal workforce. Americans have been told that only 6% of federal employees work in person—this blatant lie has been pushed by Senator Ernst and Musk himself. The truth? 54% of federal employees were already working on-site full-time in late 2024, and only 10% were fully remote.

Now, under the Trump administration’s executive orders, employees are being forced back into offices under false pretenses, stripped of their protections, and targeted for removal. Many of these workers are veterans—35% of the federal workforce—including those disabled in combat. Programs supporting disabled employees, veterans, and women’s workplace rights have been silenced under the guise of banning DEI.

And while federal employees face job insecurity, data breaches, and external control of their own agencies, Congress has remained almost entirely silent.

This is an attack on the integrity of public service—and it must be stopped. Sign this petition to demand immediate investigations, legal action, and accountability before more damage is done.

Key Concerns:

 1. Unauthorized Server Installation and Data Breach

 • An illegal server was reportedly installed at the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), sending unauthorized emails to federal employees. This server compromised the data and privacy of federal employees.

https://www.newsweek.com/lawsuit-trump-admin-data-federal-employees-2022583

 2. External Personnel Gaining Unauthorized Access

 • Aides of Elon Musk, who are not federal employees and do not hold security clearances, have locked out OPM’s civil workforce from their computers and have taken over the network.

 • Federal employees with security clearances and access to private information are now at risk, as these unauthorized individuals could use this access to remove or manipulate data.

 3. Spam Attacks and Email Compromise

 • The illegal servers have led to NOAA employees being hit with spam attacks, raising concerns that federal email systems may have been compromised and sensitive email data stolen and shared on the open web.

https://fedscoop.com/noaa-inboxes-spammed-with-crude-trump-jokes-scientology-subscription/

 4. Harassing and Insulting Emails to Federal Employees

 • OPM has sent emails from external server to employees with deferred resignations. These emails have:

 • Insulted federal employees as “low-productivity individuals” who should resign and find jobs in the private sector.

 • Told them to “enjoy a nice vacation” while pending removal from government service and facing unemployment.

 5. Public Mockery by High-Profile Individuals

 • On X (formerly Twitter), Elon Musk and his associates have publicly mocked federal employees who received resignation letters.

 • Eric Kuhn tweeted:

“I love how they needed to spell out the ‘Hit send’ part bc they most govt employees would have trouble with that”

 • Elon Musk responded with a laughing emoji.

 • This demonstrates a billionaire working with DOGE openly ridiculing thousands of federal employees who are at risk of losing their jobs.

 6. Suspension of DEI and Support Programs

 • The banning of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs in federal agencies has led to:

 • The termination of support groups for disabled individuals, including disabled veterans.

 • The elimination of military resource groups and women’s rights programs.

 • These actions may violate protections under the Civil Rights Act and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

 7. Lack of Congressional Assurance

 • Only one member of Congress has addressed the OPM resignation issue.

 • No congressional members have reassured federal employees that these resignations will be honored, especially in the event of a government shutdown or funding issues.

 • OPM does not have authority over Congress on funding matters, and this silence creates uncertainty for thousands of employees.

 8. Unauthorized Access to Treasury Systems

 • Elon Musk’s DOGE employees are attempting to access the Department of Treasury’s payment systems.

 • These individuals are not federal employees and lack the necessary security clearances.

Federal Workforce Overview

The federal workforce consists of over 2 million civilian employees serving in various roles, including doctors, lawyers, engineers, administrators, park rangers, janitors, construction crews, law enforcement personnel, scientists, intelligence analysts, cybersecurity specialists, social workers, air traffic controllers, firefighters, Border Patrol agents, meteorologists, public health officials, and research scientists.

Among the more than 2 million federal employees, 35% are veterans, many of whom transitioned from military service to public service, bringing their dedication and expertise to civilian roles. However, what many don’t realize is that half of these veterans are disabled due to service-related injuries, including those sustained in combat. These men and women, who once defended the nation on the battlefield, now serve as doctors, engineers, law enforcement officers, and administrators—yet they now face uncertainty, job insecurity, and a system that seems to be turning its back on them.

For months, Americans have been told that federal employees are avoiding the office, with Senator Ernst and Elon Musk claiming that only 6% of the workforce shows up in person. But this widely repeated statistic is a lie. In reality, as of late 2024, approximately 54% of federal employees were already working on-site full-time, while only 10% were fully remote. Despite this, in January 2025, President Trump issued an executive order mandating that all federal employees return to their offices five days a week, aiming to increase in-person attendance across agencies. As the policy is still being implemented, its full impact remains uncertain, but the notion that federal employees are absent from their offices has been deliberately misrepresented to justify sweeping changes that disrupt the workforce.

Call to Action:

We demand immediate action to address these threats against federal employees:

1. Launch a Full Investigation into Unauthorized Actions at OPM

 • A comprehensive congressional investigation must be launched to uncover who authorized the illegal server installation at OPM, how unauthorized individuals gained control of government networks, and what sensitive federal employee data has been compromised. Lawmakers must demand answers from OPM leadership, the Trump administration, and any individuals involved in these breaches. Additionally, inspectors general and federal watchdog agencies must intervene to assess the full scope of security violations and hold those responsible accountable. If laws were broken, criminal investigations should follow, ensuring that those who unlawfully accessed government data and systems face legal consequences.

 2. Congressional Oversight and Accountability on Resignations

 • Congressional leaders, including both Senate and House members, must immediately review the policies being implemented by OPM and hold hearings to question the Trump administration’s tactics that have terrorized the federal workforce with daily threats and uncertainty. Congress must publicly confirm whether the resignations pushed by OPM will be honored, especially in the event of a government shutdown or funding freeze, and take action to prevent further abuses of power.

 3. Legal Action and Strengthened Protections

 • Lawyers with expertise in federal employment law and unions representing federal workers must take immediate legal action against these unlawful policies. Lawsuits must be filed to counteract the blatant violations of federal employment protections, data security laws, and civil rights statutes. Additionally, federal watchdogs, oversight agencies, and advocacy groups must intervene to ensure that due process is upheld and that agencies are not coerced into illegal and unethical actions.

 4. Investigate Unauthorized Access and Security Violations

 • Elon Musk’s DOGE employees are not federal employees, have not undergone background checks, and should not be allowed access to millions of federal employees’ personal information. Storing sensitive government data on outside servers controlled by unauthorized individuals is a national security risk. Congress must launch a full investigation into the illegal servers at OPM, determine who authorized these breaches, and hold those responsible accountable. Stronger security measures must be immediately implemented to prevent further unauthorized access to government networks, employee data, and financial systems.

Every day, federal employees perform extraordinary work that impacts the lives of every American. The Department of Defense (DOD) protects our national security, ensuring the safety of our country both at home and abroad. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) cares for millions of veterans, providing life-saving medical treatment, mental health support, and disability benefits to those who have served. National Park Service (NPS) rangers and scientists preserve America’s most treasured landscapes, cultural heritage, and endangered wildlife, ensuring future generations can experience the country’s natural beauty and history. The Department of Justice (DOJ) enforces federal laws, prosecutes criminals, and upholds civil rights protections, ensuring justice and accountability.

At the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), scientists track hurricanes, wildfires, and climate change trends, giving communities the warnings they need to stay safe. The Department of Energy (DOE) safeguards our nuclear stockpile, develops clean energy technologies, and strengthens the power grid, ensuring the nation’s energy security. The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) oversees public health programs, funds life-saving research, and manages responses to pandemics and national health crises.

At the Department of the Interior (DOI), land managers oversee millions of acres of public lands, protect endangered species, and manage the nation’s water resources. The Department of Treasury ensures the stability of the U.S. economy, while federal law enforcement agencies work to combat terrorism, financial fraud, drug trafficking, and cybercrime.

These public servants respond to natural disasters, protect American democracy, advance scientific breakthroughs, uphold civil rights, and care for millions of veterans and citizens in need. Yet, despite their service and sacrifice, they are now being locked out of their own systems, insulted, and pushed out of their jobs by unelected outsiders with no regard for the laws and security measures that protect our government and its workforce.

As an American voter, I urge you to stand up against these attacks on our dedicated federal employees and veterans by signing this petition. These public servants protect our nation, care for our veterans, uphold our laws, and serve the American people every day. It’s time to demand accountability and put an end to these unjust actions.
