Thank you so much for the new signatures! With every positive interaction discussing this I feel more empowered and that’s why I’m doing it; to get the power back.
I know it’s hard to comprehend but perpetrators target people with chronic health problems, mental illness, neurodiversity, addiction problems, high empathy levels, health professionals etc.
I'm speaking out for those who’ve had the message ‘they don’t matter’ reinforced by the systems that don’t understand it.
Instead of supporting loved ones with their disorders they manipulate them and take advantage, fracturing family relationships with intergenerational trauma, neurodivergent backgrounds, any vulnerability that means they can access resources and exploit our empathy.
I believe that my curiosity in psychology, my experience in the mental health sector and being a carer for a neurodivergent child has helped me have confidence to speak out. I understand why others can’t- they’re still in survival mode, recovering or have given up.
I bet most of you know at least one person who has gone through this. It’s not about punishment, it’s about change. Perpetrators need help too, it just feels too big for them, too painful. Would anyone love them if they admitted they had a problem? They’re adults now and need to heal their own trauma and suffering.
Change is hard but necessary, this projection, blame and gaslighting needs to end.
