An Appeal to Every NRI and Punjabi Living Overseas

You may have worked abroad for 10, 20 or 30 years, but your home in Punjab still carries your parents’ memories, sacrifices and final wishes.

Now imagine discovering that, while you were overseas, the person present during a Lal Dora survey gave an Aadhaar card and was recorded as the owner of your family home.

No proper contact. No genuine consent. No meaningful hearing.

This is what I am fighting against.

My name is Smt. Balvir Kaur. I am a 70-year-old widow from Village Chahal, District Hoshiarpur, currently living in Australia.

I am not a weak woman. I hold an M.A. in Punjabi, served as a school Principal for approximately 15 years and later retired as a Head Accountant in Punjab Government service. After my husband’s death, I rebuilt my life through courage, education and hard work.

I am the widow of late S. Kuljit Singh, a Grade-I Government Officer, and the only daughter of late Major Tehal Singh, who served India with honour.

My father left his property to me through his lawful Will. I also own agricultural land in the same village, officially registered in my name.

My father served the nation. His last wish was that his only daughter would remain secure.

Yet today, at the age of 70, I am still fighting to protect what he lawfully left to me.

My Appeal in 10 Powerful Points

1. The Main Injustice

During the Lal Dora survey under “Mera Ghar Mere Naam,” the Aadhaar card of the person present at my house was allegedly taken, and that person was entered as owner without my knowledge, consent or participation.

2. Aadhaar Is Not a Property Deed

An Aadhaar card proves identity—not ownership of the house in which a person happens to be standing.

3. Presence Is Not Ownership

The person present during a survey may be a child, child’s partner, relative, guest, caretaker or permitted occupant.

Physical presence cannot cancel a lawful Will or the rights of the true owner.

4. My Residence in Australia Did Not End My Rights

Living overseas did not mean that I abandoned, surrendered or gifted my property.

Distance from Punjab does not erase ownership in Punjab.

5. Family Permission Is Not Consent to Take Ownership

No child, child’s spouse or partner, relative or occupant can take ownership of my property without my lawful consent.

A mother’s love is not a transfer deed.
Family trust is not permission to claim her home.

6. Protect My Father’s Last Wish

This property is not merely land and bricks. It carries my father’s service, memories, protection and final wish for his only daughter.

His lawful decision must not be defeated by an unverified survey entry.

7. Train Panchayats and Nambardars

Panchayat members, Nambardars and survey officials must receive proper legal training.

They must understand the difference between:

The true owner and an occupant;
Aadhaar identification and ownership evidence;
Family permission and legal transfer;
Physical possession and lawful title.
8. Investigate and Preserve Every Record

I request an independent investigation and immediate preservation of all survey forms, Aadhaar submissions, statements, notices, committee records and digital entries relating to my house.

My Will, registered agricultural-land records and all previous documents must be examined fairly.

9. Give Overseas Owners a Real Voice

People living overseas must be able to submit documents, verify their identity and attend hearings through secure video calls.

We should not be ignored merely because we cannot repeatedly travel to Punjab or have no trusted person available locally.

10. Stop Further Misuse

Until the truth is established, the property must be marked as disputed and protected from sale, mortgage, transfer or further alteration.

If false information, improper verification, negligence or misuse of authority is established, action must follow according to law.

My Question to Punjab

My father served India.

My husband served the Punjab Government.

I educated children, worked for the Government and spent my life standing for truth.

Why must I now ask the world to help me protect my father’s final wish?

Why should the person present during one survey be heard, while the elderly woman living overseas—whose father left her the property through a Will—is left struggling for justice?

I have always fought for truth, and I will continue to fight.

But at this stage of my life, I need the support of every NRI, every overseas Punjabi and every person who believes that an elderly woman’s lawful rights must be respected.

This petition is not only about my home.

It is a warning to every NRI and overseas property owner:

If presence and an Aadhaar card are accepted without proper verification, your family home could be next.
