The Issue

Petition to the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt

Eritrean refugees flee unimaginable hardship in their home country — persecution, indefinite military conscription, imprisonment, and human rights violations. They escape seeking safety. But in Egypt, many are facing new horrors.

Reports from survivors and humanitarian advocates describe Eritrean refugees being attacked, raped, kidnapped, trafficked, extorted for ransom, arbitrarily detained, and left without adequate protection. Women and children are especially vulnerable. Families are living in fear.

No one who escapes violence should face violence again.

Egypt is a signatory to the 1951 Refugee Convention and regional human rights agreements. These commitments require the protection of refugees and asylum seekers from harm, exploitation, and forced return to danger.

We are calling on the Egyptian authorities to act urgently and decisively.

We Demand:

• Immediate protection measures for Eritrean refugees and other vulnerable asylum seekers.

• Full investigations into reports of kidnapping, rape, trafficking, and abuse.
• Accountability for perpetrators.
• An end to arbitrary detention of refugees.
• Protection from refoulement (forced return to persecution).
• Transparent collaboration with UNHCR and humanitarian organisations to ensure safety and dignity.

Refugees are human beings. They deserve protection, not persecution.

Egypt has the opportunity to demonstrate regional leadership by upholding its humanitarian and legal obligations. The lives and safety of thousands depend on immediate action. We urge the Egyptian Embassy to convey these concerns to the Government of Egypt and to take meaningful steps to protect Eritrean refugees now.

Sign this petition to demand protection, justice, and dignity for Eritrean refugees in Egypt.

Thanks in advance.
