Protect Equine Sports Therapy in Texas – Oppose Restrictive Veterinary Board Rule Changes

Petition Description:
We, the undersigned, are horse owners, trainers, and equine professionals who strongly oppose the proposed rule changes by the Texas Veterinary Board that would restrict equine therapies—such as massage, acupuncture, chiropractic and other bodywork modalities—to licensed veterinarians only.

Equine sports therapy plays a critical role in the health, recovery, and performance of horses. These therapies are not a replacement for veterinary care, but a complementary service that supports injury prevention, rehabilitation, mobility, and overall wellness.

Trained equine therapists invest significant time, education, and financial resources into learning proper techniques and equine anatomy. Their work has helped countless horses recover from injury and return to their jobs safely and comfortably.

Restricting these services would:

Limit access to essential care for horses
Increase financial burden on horse owners
Remove highly skilled professionals from the industry
Negatively impact equine health, performance, and welfare
This decision affects not only therapists, but the entire equine community—and most importantly, the horses themselves.

We respectfully urge the Texas Veterinary Board to reconsider these proposed changes and to include equine professionals in the conversation before implementing regulations that could harm an entire industry.

Our horses deserve comprehensive, collaborative care.
