Protect dogs and cats in Casey

Protect dogs and cats in Casey
The issue
Help us protect dogs and cats in Casey by reforming euthanasia practices at the Lost Dogs' Home, as every animal deserves a fair chance at life.
What We Are Asking Casey Council To Do:
Mandate minimum holding periods before euthanasia.
Require second opinions from independent animal behaviourists for behavioural cases.
Partner with rescue groups for rehabilitation and foster programs.
Provide full transparency and reporting of euthanasia decisions.
Prioritise adoption and foster options over euthanasia.
Full Story:
After hearing about a distressing story from the Parliament of Victoria regarding the practices at the Lost Dogs’ Home, I felt compelled to take action. This petition is my way of seeking change and protection for our beloved animals, particularly for those who find themselves at the mercy of current euthanasia practices, like dear Murphy who was put down at only 3 months old puppy in their care. We have the power to improve this system and save more animals from unnecessary euthanasia.
Many of them end up in shelters where their fate is uncertain, often leading to premature euthanasia. This could be prevented through more humane practices and beneficial policy reforms. I believe advocating for policy change at the Casey Council can make a tremendous difference in giving a voice to the voiceless.
Current practices often don't provide animals with a reasonable opportunity for assessment or rehoming. With our help, these animals can receive the attention they need for proper evaluation and behavioral assessment. We can establish programs that promote fostering, adoption, or even rehabilitation, ensuring that euthanasia is only considered when absolutely necessary.
There is potential for Casey to become a leading example in animal welfare by revisiting its euthanasia policies and focusing on alternatives that could save countless lives. By implementing initiatives such as volunteer programs, partnerships with animal welfare organisations, and community awareness campaigns, we can enhance the rehoming rates and reduce euthanasia numbers.
Every dog and cat deserves a chance at a happy life, free from unnecessary harm and premature death. By signing this petition, you can protect these animals and give them hope, your signature can save innocent lives.
