The Issue

Having lived in Seaton Carew all my life, I have cherished countless moments with my children and grandchildren on Dodds Field. It's not just a piece of land; it's a haven for our community where we gather, play, and enjoy the simplicity of being outdoors. Many in Seaton, like my own family, do not wish to see this field turned into football pitches shrouded by floodlights and stands.

Dodds Field, nestled in Seaton Carew, Hartlepool, has been a communal space since the council acquired it in 1949. Originally divided in conjunction with a park opened in 1962, this field has been an invaluable resource for our community. From dog walkers and kite enthusiasts to families simply enjoying a day out, Dodds Field is a vibrant patch for diverse activities.

The Hornby Park with the council plan to transform this field into a complex venue with multiple football pitches, increasing local traffic and congestion — particularly past our primary school — is concerning. The potential of noise pollution and restricted access only adds to our community's worries.

Maintaining Dodds Field as a public space ensures its availability for future generations in Seaton Carew to enjoy, just as we have. Our community deserves to retain this green space for everyone, especially those who seek an area to relax and reconnect with nature.

Please help us safeguard this precious asset from being locked away by private developers. Join me in urging our local council to halt the transfer of Dodds Field into private hands. Let’s protect it for our children, grandchildren, and all future generations who wish to congregate freely in a natural environment. Our voices are stronger together — sign this petition to keep Dodds Field community-owned and cherished by all.
